The City of Glasgow has a leash law that requires all dogs be kept on a leash and under the owner's direct control. All dogs within the city limits over the age of two months must have a city dog or puppy tag. In order to register your puppy with the city, free puppy tags are offered to all owners of dogs under six months of age. At the age of six months, the puppy must receive rabies vaccination, and a dog tag must be purchased.

The city keeps a list of registered dogs at City Hall, so if any animal is lost, the number on the tag can be used to return the animal to its proper owner.
